This blog documents the research and experiences of students from the College of Design at the University of Kentucky as part of the semester abroad program in Berlin.

Directed by professor Lena Nalbach, the program offers a total of 15 credit hours. The interdisciplinary design studio is based in the former Zeiss optical lens factory in the Southwest of Berlin, and 3 seminars are partly conducted by visiting College of Design faculty.

Semester Abroad Program 2007

  • Design Studio (6 credit hours)
  • Individual Studies (3 credit hours)
  • Independent Travel (3 credit hours)
  • Internships (3 credit hours)

The interdisciplinary design studio in Berlin will indulge in the sweet sides of European life, whilst using their study as an excuse to research how the profession of design can change the bitter sides to the better.

The studio will travel to Istanbul, Vienna, and cities in the vicinity of Berlin. Independent journeys will allow students to further their individual research. The blog serves as a documentation of the students’ work and experiences in Europe.
